I waded through all the corporate blether about a new 'design language' and sculpted sides, but the picture says it far more concisely. The Peugeot lion badge is also being beefed up and made to look more contemporary.

It's proving a bit of a purple patch for Peugeot, which this month launches its practical 5008 mini people carrier — I reviewed it last week after a test drive to the West Country.

It's also unveiled its BB1 electric city car and has just appointed a dynamic new designer, Gilles Vidal, 37. Who knows what's next?

As the country ground to a halt in the big freeze this week, did you notice that the vehicles that did keep going through the snow and ice were those rufty-tufty, off-road Chelsea Tractors so despised by global-warming zealots?

I didn't see many Land Rovers, big Audi Quattros or the like stranded by the roadside. These suburban off-roaders certainly made mince meat of the inclement elements.

If only the nation's school chiefs had shown the same fortitude as the school-run mums in their 4X4s, maybe the country would have kept going instead of having a collective national skive.

Henceforth, the collective noun for a group of Chelsea Tractors should be a 'smug'.
