LMS - Pescarolo Sport - Spa-FrancorchampsAfter a wet practice on Friday bright sunshine lit the track during the second free practice session on Saturday morning. One thing remained the same, the session was interrupted twice by a red flag.

Only a couple of minutes after the session got underway the red flag was shown for the first time when the RML Lola Mazda went off under braking at La Source and ripped of the front section of the car. As the car had been recovered the session was restarted. Moments before the red flag came out the Team Modena Ferrari had already crawled in on three wheels.

Not long after the session had been restarted it was followed by another brief red flag period. But almost as quick as the red flags appeared they also disappeared and soon the cars were back out on the track again.

Tomas Enge was quickest halfway through the session after posting a 2:03.774. In the second half, with the track conditions improving the lap times of most cars went quicker. With only a handful of minutes remaining in the session it was Marcel Fässler in the Lola Aston Martin who improved the time set by Enge when posting a 2:03.515. By then Darren Turner had posted the third fastest lap, making it an Aston Martin top three.

But it wasn’t to happen in this session as in basically the final minute of the session it was Jean-Christophe Boullion in the #16 Pescarolo Judd that beat them all. The French driver somehow found half a second on his way around the 7 kilometers long circuit and stopped the clocks on 2:02.989.

In LMP2 meanwhile the Porsche RS Spyder of Team Essex posted the fastest lap of the session over a second ahead of its nearest rival, the #29 Racing Box Lola. Third fastest was the Quifel ASM Team Ginetta-Zytek 09S

The Luc Alphand Aventures Corvette C6.R was quickest in GT1. The American muscle car beat its Italian counterpart by 1.2 seconds.

In GT2 the #77 Team Felbermayr Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR beat the Ferrari armada in the second free practice. The Lieb-Lietz-Felbermayr car was the only GT2 entry to go quicker than 2:22. Their fastest time of 2:21.180 was 1.276s quicker than the JMW Motorsport Ferrari F430 GT2 and 1.577s quicker than the second fastest Porsche, the IMSA Matmut Performance car. of Pilet and Narac.

Unfortunately for the Snoras Spyker Squadron their built-up towards the qualifying and race was interrupted when Coronel hit the wall on driver’s left between Blanchimont and the Bus Stop chicane. Coming out of Blanchimont the Spyker was seen side by side with the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo driven by Christophe Bouchut. The French driver then moved right into the path of Coronel, causing the Spyker driver to spin and hit the wall on the outside of the track. While Coronel returned to the pit with some bodywork damage as well as damage to the front and rear suspension, the Lamborghini kept on going…before crashing out at Les Combes, damaging the front of the Gallardo.
