Le Mans: Aston Martin Racing Triumphs Over Adversity For Spa Podium

In front of 72,000 fans, Mark Martin and his No. 5 Cheez-it / CARQUEST Chevrolet won the Southern 500, his 37th victory in 733 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is his second victory and sixth top-10 finish in 2009. This is also his second victory and 26th top-10 finish in 43 races at Darlington Raceway.

Overall, it was a huge new for the Chevrolet at Darlington, as the manufacturer swept the top seven positions.

Jimmie Johnson drove his No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet to second to post his ninth top-10 finish in 11 races at Darlington Raceway. It is his seventh top-10 finish in 2009.

Tony Stewart and his No. 14 Old Spice / Office Depot Chevrolet continue to run well as he looks for his first win as a NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner. The Rocket posted his ninth top-10 finish in 17 races at Darlington Raceway.

Ryan Newman was fourth, while Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five.

Greg Biffle gave Ford their best effort of the night, he was eighth.

Joey Logano's ninth place finish was the highest by a rookie, and best for Toyota. Meanwhile the best Dodge could muster was a 14th place finish.

Jeff Gordon leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings by 29 points over Tony Stewart. Read more... (34354 bytes more)
