Aston Martin indefinitely suspends development of the Lagonda SUV

British-based sports car maker Aston Martin, has revealed in an interview with Edmunds, that the auto maker has put the development of the Lagonda SUV on hold, indefinitely.

Ulrich Bez, CEO of the company mentioned that the hold is due to the uncertain economic climate. Apparently, there are already some investors who are interesting in collectively pumping in about a quarter-billion pounds into the project, but the timing is not right.

The Lagonda SUV was fist shown as a concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. It is positioned as a luxury four wheel drive 4-seater that is powered by a V12 power plant, which should be able to pump out anywhere between 500 and 550HP. The Mercedes GL-Class platform used for the Lagonda was supposed to spawn diesel and hybrid variants in the future.

Apparently, when the car was presented in Geneva, it was taken away a while later, after Aston Martin found out that the motoring media wasn’t too pleased with the concept, probably because of the design. In fact, even certain Aston Martin officials are avoiding to take up the project. Lagonda was a separate British auto maker (founded in 1906) that was integrated into Aston Martin in 1947. In fact, the term ‘Rapide’, now used for the Aston Martin Rapide, was first used on the 1935 Lagonda 3½ Liter Rapide Tourer.
