The 2009 Super GT was a blast with a total of 39486 (8,900 on Saturday and 30,586 on Sunday) motorsports fans came for the event at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Apart from the main race, spectators were also treated with supporting races from Formula V6 Asia, GT3 Asia and Aston Martin Cup Asia.

In between races motorsports fans were entertained with appearances of the race queens Sana and Nana and the other race queens accompanying the teams at the mall area.

On top of that, there were also drift demos and performance by Dragon Red.

Around 70 GT look-alike cars were on display along with 176 cars from 6 car clubs.

Prior to that, on Saturday more than 2500 kids, some with their parents had a chance to get close to the Super GT cars in the Kids Pit Walkabout Program that allows them to enter the pitlanes for free.

Among them are 300 orphans that were invited by SIC as special guest to the event.

Toys and freebies awaited them given away by the teams racing in Super GT and lucky draw prizes from SIC, GTA and strategic partners in the program.

There were also display and trade booths at the mall are where race fans had a chance to grab some official merchandise and products on offer.

Car companies like Nissan and Toyota took the opportunity to launch their latest product such as the Impul tuned Sylphy.

On the main event, luck helped team Hasemi Tomica Ebro GT-R get a head from the rest to win the Malaysian round of the Super GT in a Nissan GT-R.

“When I heard that car number 1 was experiencing some technical problem I knew we could win if everything else worked well for us this weekend,” said driver Ronnie Quintarelli.

“We got second spot in the qualifying run and when their car had to start from the pit we have a clear line ahead of us at the start of the race.

I pushed hard on the first few laps until lap five where I had a comfortable gap with the car behind.”

Second driver Hironobu Yasuda took the Nissan GT-R on the second half of the race all the way to victory with ease.

“When it was my turn, the team director told me that I don’t have to push it and conserve the car and tyres and so I followed the order,” Hironobu said.

GT300 winner team Cars Tokai Dream 28 started on the last spot of the GT300 line-up.

“It was amazing; I thought I had brought some bad luck to the team when I joined on round 2 considering how bad we have been performing but winning this round means it just going to get better for us,” Hiroki Katoh said.

“Up to this point the team’s morale was on the low side, winning this round will really boost us up.

The car and tyres were good throughout the race and I thank my team mates for this victory.”

Second driver Hiroki Yoshimoto matched his team mate’s effort and completes the 54 lap race first in class.

“I have raced here a few times here in Sepang so I know the track well.

Luck was really on our side to be able to podium after a really bad two previous rounds and I’m really happy about finally winning this year.”

The Super GT will move back to Japan on the Sugo race track next month.
