Le Mans 24: Aston Martin Exceeds All Expectations At Le Mans

Posted by: MSulka on Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 07:04 PM Michigan: NASCAR Sprint Cup Starting Line-up & Race PreviewBy Mike Sulka

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series has been racing at the 2.0-mile D-shaped oval at Michigan International Speedway since 1969.

And while the winners at the circuit have been diverse, they tend to have one thing in common... they aren't powered by Chevrolet. Since 1999, a span of 18 races, Chevrolet have won just twice with the last win coming with Dale Earnhardt Jr's hands at the wheel in last June's visit to Brooklyn, Michigan. Interestingly, that was also the last win by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

But since we are looking for winners, we are also looking for drivers who seem to do well on the high banks, and have a solid history at the circuit.

On first blush, the name of Carl Edwards can't be missed. The Ford driver has won twice in the last four races at Michigan - Once in July of 2007, and once last August.

But, only one driver finished in the top five twice at Michigan last season... Matt Kenseth. In fact, Kenseth has finished in the top five six times in the last eight races at Michigan an amazing 75% of the time. Kenseth has also won twice at Michigan (August 2006, June 2002).

Kurt Busch is the only other winner over the last two years, but his highest other finish was a very weak 21st.

So... We are going to call this one for a Ford, and how about a win for Matt Kenseth ? At the very least, he'll finish in the top five, and that can't be all bad. Read more... (19871 bytes more) Todays Big Story Today's most read story is:
