Third fastest overall was the Corvette of Diego Alessi and Luca Pirri, with Alessi setting the cars best time in the first session. The fourth fastest car was the Phoenix Racing Audi of Nicolas Armindo and Cesar Campanico, improving the time by 1.4 seconds between the first and second sessions. The Mühlner Motorsport Porsche of Johannes Stuck and Dino Lunardi was 5th fastest overall and 4th in the second session with a time just 0.6 seconds slower than the lead Hexis Aston Martin.
Driver Quotes after Free Practice 1
Frederic Makowiecki (#4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9):
“That was a good session for us, we worked really hard and I hope we can do the same for the whole weekend. We had problems with the tyres in Portugal and after this we need to have a good weekend because we lost a lot of points in Portimao. The track here at Paul Ricard is very good for the Aston Martin, we have a perfect chassis and we have a good chance to win here.”
Christopher Haase (#26 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS):
“The first session wasn’t very good because we had some problems with the set up as our car now has an extra 40 kilos and is very heavy. We have work on the set up in the second free practice to find one that works on this track. Paul Ricard is very fast, with very long straights and at the moment we are too slow on the straights.”
Diego Alessi (#17 Marc Sourd Racing Corvette Z06R GT3):
“That was pretty good but not perfect, because we were second not first. The car is feeling quite good, there are some things to still improve, especially on the fast corners but we are very confident for this weekend.”
Eric De Doncker (#2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT):
“We are struggling here, the car just isn’t quick enough on the straights. The Aston Martins and the Ferraris just pull away from us in a straight line, but we will work hard and do the best job we can.”
Driver Quotes after Free Practice 2
Frederic Makowiecki (#4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9):
“We very much enjoyed that session. We have found a good set up for the qualifying and the race, there is a little bit of a difference between the two set ups. The team worked very hard and we finished 1-2 in that session.”
Gael Lesoudier (#101 AutoGT Racing Morgan Aero Super Sport):
“The session wasn’t too bad but we tried to drive with old tyres and we had a problem. I’m afraid for the race tomorrow because we might have some bad behaviour in the car towards the end of the race. We will see.”
Gilles Vannelet (#8 Kessel Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia):
“The second session was better than this morning because I only had a few laps and the car wasn’t very good. But just now I think I was really on the track at the perfect time for the new tyres, it was a magic lap, and I’m happy for qualifying and the race tomorrow.”
Cesar Campanico (#32 Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS):
“We improved a lot setting up the car and the track is getting more rubber. It’s a track where you need a very high level of confidence in the high speed corners so I think we worked in the right direction and hopefully tomorrow we’ll start at the front.”
