After the shock withdrawal of Bridgestone, and the final axe for the Toyota Formula One program, it is being reported by the BBC that Formula One could be sent reeling again on Thursday with another shocking pull-out.
In a surprise, the Renault board of directors called an 'emergency' meeting on Wednesday in which the future of the Renault F1 program was debated. Be it as a constructor, an engine supplier, or neither.
Renault - like Toyota - signed the new Concorde agreement this summer leading many observers to believe that both manufacturers would be around to fulfill their obligations through the 2012 season. The team have also recently signed and announced BMW F1 refugee Robert Kubica for the 2010 season. Another seeming sign that the team was looking beyond the cluster-f*** of a season and to making the next chapter better.
But, apparently that Concorde agreement isn't worth the flash paper it was written on.
And maybe it can be said that a Formula One without manufacturer competition isn't worth the expense of Formula One. Read more... (922 bytes more)
