New cars to join field at Spa

New cars to join field at Spa A number of new cars will line up on the grid for the second rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Spa this coming weekend. The Belgian event will mark the first outing of the season for former champions RPM, which will field a Ford GT for Michael Bentwood and Philip Walker, with the team looking to try and repeat the kind of performance that saw the Ford win on its series debut in a one-off outing at Snetterton last season. "We have to be realistic with our expectations,” Bentwood said. “This is the first weekend together for me, Philip and the team - but I see no reason why we can't compete at the front. The car is quick, Philip is quick and I'm quick; we can finish on the podium."The Spa weekend will also see the first outing of the season for the 22GT Racing Aston Martin, with Tom Alexander joined by Adrian Willmott, while Barwell's Zytek-powered Ginetta G50Z will also make its first appearance of the year in the Invitational Class with Olly Bryant on driving duties.Having switched to the British GT arena this season, MTech will debut a new car, with the new Ferrari 430 Scuderia replacing the older-spec 430 raced by Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron during the opening rounds of the campaign at Oulton Park."We are really pleased to have what is only the second customer car delivered and the first in the UK,” team boss Mike Edmonds said. “We shook down the car at Donington last week and it went brilliantly. It's a beautiful bit of kit and much, much better already than the old car."Stuart Hall and Dan Brown head to Spa as points leaders following their double win at Oulton Park, and the pair will benefit from back-up in Belgium from Rollcentre team boss and experienced racer Gregor Fisken, who will share driving duties in a second Mosler MT900 entered in the event."Gregor has long been keen to do the British championship, and ours seems like a perfect partnership," Short said. "I have a pretty good record at Spa, but I fear that I might be outdone by young Hall and Brown. Daniel is a remarkable driver, such a cool character."A field of 20 cars is expected to line-up alongside machines from the Belgian GT arena for the weekend, which will see British GT acting as a support to the second round of the Le Mans Series.
